Events & Bar Manager – Maternity Cover

We are on the hunt for an enthusiastic, organised and creative person with great people skills to join the team as maternity cover.

Duration & Nature of Employment:

  • 6 months part time (30hrs/week) covering maternity leave.
  • Includes training/handover before and after the maternity leave period.
  • Possibility of job share or reduced hours after initial 6 months.

Role Overview:

  • Collaborate with the MMI team to enhance the success of events and bar operations.
  • Curate and facilitate innovative events within budget, with a focus on community engagement and strategic decision-making based on financial and community impact.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Manage event bookings, administration, promotion, and staffing.
  • Develop and maintain a diverse and innovative events program.
  • Keep a rolling events diary, planned 3-6 months ahead.
  • Increase the number of viable events (public and private) within budget constraints.
  • Foster positive relationships with local community groups for event planning and collaboration.
  • Promote events through various channels including social media and physical posters.
  • Availability for evening and weekend events.

Bar Management:

  • Lead the bar team to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Liaise with suppliers and manage bar stock, including stock orders and monitoring.
  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of the bar area and equipment, including monthly maintenance.
  • Financial accountability for bar operations.

Licensing & Health and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with Licensing legislation and Health & Safety At Work Legislation.
  • Adhere to MMI’s Policies and Procedures Manual.

Staffing and Bookings:

  • Handle recruitment, induction and training of new staff/volunteers.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing for events and efficient room setup/clear up.
  • Coordinate with hirers for event arrangements and ticket management
  • Negotiate, create, and monitor hire contracts with 3rd party businesses.

Promotions and General Duties:

  • Manage MMI’s social media and event website updates.
  • Work closely with operations and café managers for scheduling and space utilization.
  • Provide regular reports to Trustees.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with audio/visual and pub games/sports equipment (preferred but not required).
  • Ability to do safe heavy lifting and rearrange multi-use spaces.
  • Familiarity with St Agnes Village and previous engagement with the MMI community (beneficial but not essential).

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: £18,720.00 per year
